Brent Knoll singer reaches final of national singing contest

-

A talented young singer from Brent Knoll has sung herself into the final of a nationwide competition.

Gracie Wickens-Sweet, 9, took part in the national final of the ‘Star of Stage’ competition in Cardiff on Sunday.

The contest is the UK’s largest musical theatre competition and Gracie was chosen by five prestigious judges who also awarded her as the ‘top scorer’ out of the remaining six finalists chosen.

She will now be performing in the final at The Sherman Theatre, Cardiff on 18th January 2014 where she will be judged by Connie Fisher, the winner of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC Show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, and David Mahoney of TV’s Only Men Aloud plus other top celebrity judges.

There will be a £3,000 prize pool for the winner, including the opportunity for a headline performance at the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the Cardiff Music Festival and a recording package in London and a management deal.

Singing teacher Siobhan Johnson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Gracie is an amazing young local singer who has an outstanding and fantastically mature timbre to her voice.”

“When she performs she has a natural ability of lighting up a stage with her incredible talent and presence and was definitely born to perform on a stage. She is a complete pleasure and delight to teach and she continually makes her parents extremely proud of her.”

Gracie is also a member of the ‘Burnham Youth Choir’ and can be heard singing with them this Saturday (14th December) at St Andrew’s Church at 7pm during Burnham Rotary Club’s Christmas Carol Service.
