Firefighters from Burnham tackle grassland blaze in Lympsham

-

Firefighters from Burnham-On-Sea were called to a grassland blaze in Lympsham on Saturday evening (July 13th).

Crews attended a field of grassland on fire near Bridgwater Road in Lympsham.

The fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet, beaters and a brendon pump.

The incident comes as Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service remind walkers and campers to be extra vigilant during the current heatwave.

“The fire service are advising people to extinguish cigarettes and other smoking materials properly, never throw cigarette ends out of car windows and never to discard bottles or glass in the open as sunlight shining through glass can start fires,” said a spokesman.

“Peope should avoid using open fires in the countryside, and never attempt to tackle fires that can’t be put out with a bucket of water – leave the area as quickly as possible and dial 999.”
