Plans for new high-tech history trail in Burnham-On-Sea receive boost

-

A new high-tech history trail looks set to be introduced in Burnham-On-Sea to encourage visitors and residents to explore the town’s heritage.

Burnham and Highbridge Town Council has this month earmarked £1,500 towards the project, which is being led by North Sedgemoor Local History Group.

Town councillor Phil Harvey, pictured, told the latest council meeting that a bid for Heritage Lottery Funding is also being drawn up so that the project can also create an archive of online photos and information.

Cllr Harvey said: “The project hopes to build up a resource of local historical information which will help to establish a sense of belonging for local residents and also be a source of interest to visitors.”

The history trail will include the ability for smartphone owners to access background information about historical landmarks, such as St Andrew’s Church, as they walk along the route.

Each location on the trail will feature a sign displaying a QR code (Quick Response Code) for smartphone users to scan and access further online information about the stories behind the buildings.
