'Hit and run' incident in Highbridge prompts police appeal for witnesses

Police have appealed for witnesses after a pensioner was injured in a 'hit and run' incident in Highbridge on Wednesday (November 6th).

At about 6.45am, a car was in collision with a 69 year-old man who was crossing Pepperall Road at the junction with Burnham Road.

The man suffered a broken leg and was taken to Weston General Hospital for treatment.

Investigating officer PC Katy Drabble told that the car failed to stop at the scene and drove off in the direction of the Frank Foley Parkway.

"We are looking to speak to the driver of a Peugeot 407 Estate in connection with this inquiry."

"If anyone saw this collision or has information about the whereabouts of the car, please call us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact police on the 24-hour non-emergency number 101.

The man's daughter, Kelly Ford, told "It was my dad's birthday today, so this has come as a terrible shock."

"He went out to buy a newspaper and an estate car came round the corner at speed and hit him near the roundabout. His leg is broken in three places."
