British Land Yachting Championships underway on Brean beach

-

Bitterly cold winds have not stopped dozens of land yachting enthusiasts from across the UK gathering on Brean beach this weekend.

In fact, the wind is just what they need for the British Land Yachting Championships, which continue today (Sunday).

Current champion Rhys Davies, pictured right, won the first races on Saturday and said the conditions were good.

“The wind was blowing from the east at around 10mph which meant the event could go ahead but we would have liked a little more breeze,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Stronger winds are forecast for Sunday, when the 30 racers will take part in the second day of racing in the third round of the British Championships.

The two-day event is being overseen by Brean Land Yacht Club and the action on Sunday is due to begin at 10am, weather permitting.
