Burnham-On-Sea BMX rider Liam Phillips celebrates World Cup victory

-

Burnham-On-Sea BMX rider Liam Phillips and his team-mate Shanaze Reade have plenty of reasons to celebrate this week after each claimed the champions’ crown at the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Manchester at the weekend.

Liam battled it out in the last 16, crossing the finish line in 29.354 seconds to make it through as the only male GB rider. In the final, Phillips continued his fine form and dominated the race.

“I’m speechless, absolutely speechless,” he said afterwards. “I have been looking to do well at this race since the Olympics, and it is amazing to actually deliver when I needed to and kick-start my season.”

Reade came first in the quarters and semis, with team-mates Charlotte Green and Abbie Taylor also flying through. And, like Phillips, she started strongly and brought home the victory.
