Supermarket unveils plans to expand its Burnham-On-Sea store

-

A supermarket chain has unveiled plans to expand its store in Burnham-On-Sea.

Lidl in Oxford Street wants to extend the south elevation of its store, pictured here, by 122 square metres.

Under plans submitted to Sedgemoor District Council, it will remove seven car parking spaces to make room for the development.

Lidl says the extra space will provide “much-need additional warehouse space” and it adds that the single-storey extension will use building materials that match the current materials.

However, the application has raised concern among local residents who say it could create additional light pollution at night.

Resident Susan Butt has written to the council’s planning officer objecting to the proposals. “I am already plagued by serious light pollution from the store and the extension will further add to this by bringing the store even closer to the back of my property,” she says.

Residents have until March 29th to submit their feedback to Sedgemoor District Council.
