Inquest held into death of popular Burnham-On-Sea woman

Lorraine Dibble, 49, was a well-known Burnham-On-Sea driving instructor and the treasurer of Burnham Football Club.

At an inquest in Bridgwater on Tuesday (January 8th), West Somerset coroner Michael Rose said her body had been found after she hung herself.

He said: “The deceased, following a dispute with her partner, left their first floor bedroom in the early hours of the morning of June 10th, 2012 and then, to either gain attention or frighten her partner, attached a rope to herself but still had her body resting on the stairs, hoping to be discovered. However, this action brought about her death before her body was discovered at about 8.45am. The cause of death was asphyxiation.”

A number of tributes were paid to Lorraine last year by her family and friends.

Burnham United Football Club said in a statement: “Everyone at BUFC sends their condolences to family and friends of treasurer Lorraine Dibble following the very sad news of her death.”

Lorraine was also a member of the Burnham’s former Aces Carnival Club for many years, where she was also treasurer. After leaving school she worked in a record shop in Market Street, Highbridge, and later worked for FF&F.
