Bank Holiday travel chaos as lorry overturns at Highbridge M5 junction

-

Bank Holiday traffic came to a standstill in the Burnham-On-Sea area today (Monday) when a lorry overturned on the entry slip to the M5 motorway.

The entry slip road at junction 23 for Highbridge was closed after the lorry flipped over at around 9.45am.

Police diverted motorists through Huntspill and Highbridge along the A38, causing long queues of holiday traffic.

The driver of the lorry was trapped in the cab when fire crews arrived. They removed the windscreen of the lorry and used cutting gear to gain access to the cab and release the man, who was not understood to be seriously hurt.

The Dorset and Somerset helicopter was also called to the scene and landed in a field besides the junction, as pictured here.
