Members of Highbridge’s Lucy Gunter Dance Centre have raised over £600 for the town’s Festival of the Arts by holding several special performances.

The centre’s youngsters held two Hollywood-themed events in aid of the annual festival, which have netted a total of £602.

The first was ‘A Night at the Hollywood Oscars’ which took place at Batch Country House in December and comprised of a cabaret show performed by the students plus a two course dinner for guests, an Oscar-style awards ceremony for the students, and a disco for the 400 guests.

This was followed earlier in January by a second show called ‘Hooray for Hollywood’ which was held at the Princess Theatre in Burnham.

The show was adapted from their first performance with added extras. Alongside both shows the dance centre organized and ran a prize draw with donations from local businesses, including Sentiments in Burnham, Morrisons in Burnham, The Barn at Badgworth, Brean’s Seagull Inn, The Oaktree, Weston Dance Wear, FF&F Carpets and Timeless Images Photos of Bridgwater.

“Both events ran very smoothly and proved extremely successful for all involved. The students loved performing and then enjoyed dinner and a disco,” Lucy Gunter told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We are very grateful to all those who donated prizes for the draw and to all those who supported us and came to watch. We hope we have helped the Highbridge Festival with this donation as we appreciate they have struggled to continue in recent years and think it would be such a shame if it could not continue.”

“As many of our students take part in the Festival across Dance, Music & Drama we all felt that this would be a great cause to make our donation to.”

“Our students have another busy year ahead & returning once again to the festival will be part of it. So I would urge the public to support the Festival when it takes place in March, there is always very special talent to see!”
