Dozens of young gymnasts gathered in Highbridge at the weekend to take part in a tumbling competition.

The event was held at Monarchs Gymnastics Club’s new base in Brue Way on the Walrow Industrial Estate.

Among those taking part were the club’s recreational group, competitive club and also its two newest groups which have only started since the club moved premises – an 18+ group and an 11+ group.

The winners in the Novice 5 and under category were 3rd Sophie Greenwood, 2nd Mercina Marceches and 1st Nate Love. In the Novice 8 and unders, the awards went to 3rd Kian Hawkes, 2nd Ellie Spofford and 1st Melissa Slatter.

In the Novice 12 and unders, the awards went to 3rd Macy Lucas, 2nd Milly Fooks and 1st C J Milsom. And the Novice 18+ winners were 2nd Leslie Reed and 3rd Tanya Smith.

The winners in the Advanced 7-9 years category were 3rd Karen Lee, 2nd Gina Cumberlidge and 1st Sophie McGrath. And in the advanced 10-12 years class, the awards went to 3rd Maddie Rose, 2nd Ellie Petrie and 3rd Shauna Cross.

The awards were handed out by Monarchs President Neville Jones. Club spokeswoman Mandy Warburton said: “All the team from Monarchs would like to say a big well done to everyone who competed.”
