Lucky escape for Burnham-On-Sea hotel couple as 4×4 crashes

-

A Burnham-On-Sea couple was lucky to avoid injury after their 4×4 slammed into this wall in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday morning (February 10th).

Martin and Dee Lloyd, who run Burnham’s Victoria Hotel, were travelling along Oxford Street in their Shogun 4×4 when it crashed into the wall in Oxford Street, pictured, sending stones flying over a footpath and pavement.

They believe a technical fault with the vehicle is to blame for the collision, which left them shaken, but otherwise unhurt.

Dee told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’d just driven into Oxford Street to head out of Burnham for the day when our rear break stuck, causing the vehicle to spin into the wall.”

“Fortunately no body was hurt, just shaken up. I called the police and they met us.”

“The vehicle has been badly damaged even though we weren’t going very fast – it all seemed to happen in slow motion. The wall will get repaired by our insurance company.”

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police were called to a single vehicle collision in Oxford Street at 10.10am where a Shogun had collided with a wall. The driver of the vehicle was breath tested and there was a negative result.”

Somerset County Council’s highways team cleared away the debris and cordoned off the area.
