A brand new pedestrian crossing is to be installed on a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea, it has been announced this week.

Burnham councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton, pictured, has secured funds from Somerset County Council for the scheme in Berrow Road.

The crossing will be installed outside the Kathleen Chambers care home, operated by the Royal National Institute Of The Blind, which is located opposite the Texaco garage.

“The safety of this busy, fast-moving stretch of road has been in the spotlight for many years and I am delighted to have secured funding for the new crossing which will greatly help the safety of nearby residents,” Cllr Burridge-Clayton told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

A Somerset County Council spokeswoman said the project is currently in its design phase and the crossing is due to be installed during the first quarter of 2013/2014.

The news comes just weeks after an announcement that a new crossing is also to be installed in Highbridge, as we reported here.
