New Sergeant takes the helm at Burnham-On-Sea Police Station

-

A new Sergeant has been appointed to take the helm at Burnham-On-Sea police station.

Sgt Ash Jones, pictured, has taken over the management of Burnham-On-Sea and Cheddar Police Stations and the neighbourhood policing teams based there.

It comes after Sgt Ian Kennett and Inspector Roger Tolley retired from their roles at Burnham police station earlier this year.

Ash has been based at Burnham since February this year as the leader of one of the 24-hour response policing teams which are based at the station.

Prior to his posting to Burnham, he was the Sergeant in charge of neighbourhood policing in the Bishopsworth area of South Bristol and he comes with a wealth of experience in local policing services.

In 2009, he founded the Senior Citizen Liaison Team (SCLT) to provide a specially tailored support service to members of the older adult community.

The SCLT went on to great success, becoming a registered charity in 2012 and winning the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award in 2013.

An officer for 16-years, he has served in several departments of the police, including roles in CID, Operational Planning, Professional Standards and as a staff officer, he is delighted at his new appointment in Burnham and Cheddar.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I very happy to be returning to neighbourhood policing as the Sergeant of the Burnham and Cheddar areas.”

“I firmly believe in the importance of localised policing services and understand that our communities really enjoy seeing the police in the neighbourhood and also having an opportunity to communicate their issues and concerns with us face-to-face.”

“I will be spending as much time as possible on the beat in the community and hope the citizens of Burnham and Cheddar will stop me for a chat when they see me out and about.”
