A bird striking a power line is the likely cause of a power cut which plunged over 300 homes in West Huntspill into darkness during the early hours of last Friday morning (January 4th).

Western Power Distribution says 385 homes were without power for around 10 minutes from 2.52am after a pole-mounted circuit breaker tripped in the village.

“The reason for the circuit breaker tripping was unable to be determined. At that time of day, the most likely cause could be a bird flying into contact with the overhead wires,” a Western Power Distribution spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
