‘That’s the way to do it!’ Punch and Judy car rescued on town beach

-

Burnham-On-Sea RNLI came to the rescue of Punch and Judy on the town’s beach on Sunday (July 14th)!

Punch and Judy entertainer ‘Professor’ Paul Wheeler had driven onto the town’s beach on Sunday morning to set up his popular show featuring traditional seaside puppets Punch and Judy – however, his car’s wheels became stuck in the soft sand.

Fortunately, Burnham’s lifeboat volunteers had just launched their lifeboat during a training sesssion using the station’s Softtrak launch vehicle and it was used to winch the stricken car from the soft sand.

Paul, pictured right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have been coming down here since Easter and have always been told to steer clear of the soft sand. Unfortunately, due to the recent weather, the soft sand was worse than I expected and I became stuck. The RNLI guys were absolutely first class.”

Lifeboats spokesman Mike Lang added: “Although we wouldn’t normally use the RNLI equipment for vehicle recovery, we were on our way back to the station during Sunday morning training and a steady pull with our tractor winch was all that was needed. The incident also added value to our training session.”
