Second body found by Highbridge railway line

-

A second body has been discovered today (Friday) close to Highbridge railway station where a man was killed by a passing train last night.

British Transport Police made the new discovery this morning as they investigated the death of the first man, although it is currently not clear whether the two are linked.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Officers investigating the death of a man who was struck by train at Springfield Road Foot Crossing, just south of Highbridge and Burnham rail station, on Thursday, 11 July, have discovered the body of a second man behind a railway building near to Highbridge and Burnham station.”

“The second body was discovered at 10.40am this morning, Friday 12 July, and the incident is currently being treated as unexplained.”

“Officers are working to establish the cause of death although the man found this morning has not been struck by a train. Officers are also working to establish his identity.”

“At this stage, it is unclear whether there are any links between the man who was hit by a train on Thursday 11 July and the man who was found behind the railway building on Friday, 12 July, and enquiries are ongoing.”

Police have appealed for information and asked anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
