-

An inquest has been opened this week into the death of a man found besides a railway line in Highbridge.

The body of the 39 year-old, named as Matthias Watson of no fixed abode, was discovered behind a track-side building near Highbridge Railway Station on Friday July 12th at 10.40am.

The inquest was opened and adjourned on Wednesday (July 17th) as investigations into the incident continue.

British Transport Police say the death of another man, 34 year-old Shane Ponting, on Thursday July 11th – the night before – is not believed to be linked.

Det Insp Andy Irwin-Porter, of British Transport Police, said: “At this stage, as far as we are aware, there does not appear to be any connection between the two deaths or the two men involved.”

“However, inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances leading up to both incidents and we will be keeping an open mind while we continue to gather information.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to get in touch by contacting British Transport Police on freefone 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting the incident references 445 of 11/07/13 and 193 of 12/07/13.
