Met Office warns of flood risk in Burnham area as heavy rain sweeps in

-

Torrential rain and strong winds could cause flooding and travel disruption in the Burnham-On-Sea area over the next few days, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain across the region.

“An area of heavy rain and strong winds is expected to cross the region, bringing some locally large rainfall accumulations. Following previous wet weather, this is likely to lead to some localised flooding,” a Met Office spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The public should be aware of the potential for disruption from flooding.”

The warning comes as several deep low pressure systems move across the Atlantic, arriving into western parts of the country.

“With mild air and strong winds, some large rainfall totals are possible over southwest England.”

Police have advised motorists to take extra care in the wet conditions.

Stormy weather is forecast to sweep through the Burnham area in the days leading up to Christmas Day, the Met Office says.
