Bin collection days to change across Burnham area in efficiency drive

-

Rubbish collection days for thousands of residents across the Burnham-On-Sea area are set to change this month in a bid to increase efficiency.

From the week starting 8th July, the day of the weekly recycling and fortnightly refuse collections will change for many residents across the area.

Every household that is affected will shortly receive a letter explaining how the changes will affect them and when their first new collections will begin.

Somerset Waste Partnership says the changes are aimed at improving efficiency and avoiding the delays that can occur when its staff travel to rounds near the M5 motorway.

Cllr Richard Burden, Sedgemoor District Council Environment Portfolio Holder, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Traffic analysis of the M5 and nearby routes shows that making these day changes will improve the efficiency and reliability of kerbside collections for residents by avoiding delays and disruptions.”

The changes include assisted collections and paid-for garden waste collections, but not clinical waste collections.

In all, around 25,000 properties will see a change. Locations in which some or most properties will be affected are Berrow, Brean, Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.

Apart from the pick-up day, the collections themselves will not change, with a dozen or more materials collected at the kerbside, including food waste.
