Burnham-On-Sea Scouts launch £20,000 roof fundraising appeal

-

A major project to fund vital repairs to Burnham-On-Sea’s Scout hut has been launched this week.

The group says it’s in a “desperate” need to replace the leaking roof on its building at Burnham’s BASC sports ground.

It needs £20,000 to carry out the work and is planning a number of fundraising events over the coming year, which began on Saturday with a Christmas fair.

Sarah Rendell, Chairwoman of Burnham Scouts, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are in desperate need of £20,000 to build a new roof – the current one is deteriorating quickly.”

“The protective paint on the roof is peeling away, leaving holes and patches of damp and moisture coming through.”

She added that many hundreds of young Scouts, Beavers and Cubs use the building, learning important life skills and the group would hate to see the work put in jeopardy due to the need to replace the roof.

“We’re concerned at how it has deteriorated over time and would the funds as soon as possible so we can go ahead with the new roof,” added Sarah.

“We’ve received £200 from the district Scouts, plus £860 from Saturday’s Christmas fair and £50 in donations so far, so there is a long way to go.”

“These are difficult times to be fundraising for such a large sum, but we hope that people will dig deep and help us.”
