Burnham-On-Sea greetings card shop in the running for top award

-

A Burnham-On-Sea shop has been selected as one of the finalists in a nationwide competition to find the UK’s best independent greetings card shops.

Sentiments, based on Burnham High Street, has been chosen as one of the five finalists in the south west for the RETAS awards, which shine the spotlight on the South West’s top independent card shops.

Staff from the Burnham store will be travelling to London’s Dorchester Hotel on July 10th when the overall winner will be announced at a special awards ceremony.

The ceremony is a glitzy event attended by hundreds of bosses from the retail industry.

John and Karen Lyons took over Sentiments in April 2012 and, together with their hardworking and loyal staff, they set about revitalising the shop, bringing in many new niche suppliers of both cards and gifts.

John told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am absolutely thrilled to reach the finals in our first year and this reflects the tremendous effort and hard work put in by the whole team in that period.”

In addition to the shop reaching the finals, Manageress Lauren Keen (pictured with John outside the shop) is one of the finalists for the RETAS ‘Greeting Card Retail Employee of the Year’ Award. This is a national award for both the multiple and independent greetings card retailers.

Lauren’s surprise was doubly great as she was not even aware she had been nominated.
