Sky Sports has announced it will be broadcasting live coverage of a speedway fixture from the Oaktree Arena on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea next month – its fifth visit to the track.
The Sky cameras will return to the Oaktree Arena for a fixture between the Somerset Rebels and Edinburgh Monarchs on June 11th.
“We are extremely honoured that the Oaktree Arena has once again been selected to play host to the Sky Sports cameras,” promoter Debbie Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Saturday.
“The guys at Sky say that the Oaktree Arena provides everything they could ever want when covering a meeting – a superb track which produces excellent racing, a well maintained stadium, great facilities and fantastic back-drop to the arena in Brent Knoll and the Burnham-On-Sea coastline.”
She added: “We look forward to welcoming the cameras back to here again for a fifth time in as many years.”
“We have always been blessed with an excellent crowd whenever Sky have been here in the past and we will be doing all we can in order to maintain that feature of our previous appearances.”
“With Edinburgh being our opposition, it has all the hallmarks of being another Oaktree Arena classic, and the match-ups between our own Jason Doyle and Edinburgh’s Craig Cook should be something to savour, and with the Monarch’s tracking 2012 Rebels Claus Vissing in their septet, he will, no doubt, want to prove a point or two, which will give added ‘spice’ to the proceedings.”
Edinburgh were originally due to visit Somerset in the Premier League in mid-August, but with the match now having been brought forward to the broadcast date of June 11th, it will mean that the Rebels home leg of their KO Cup Quarter-Final tie against Workington, which was due to take place on Friday 14th June will now be re-scheduled for an alternative date later in the season.
