Somerset Rebels qualify for Premier League Championship Final

-

The Highbridge-based Somerset Rebels qualified for the Premier League Play-Off Final last night (Thursday) where they will meet Edinburgh in order to determine the 2013 Premier League Champions.

Somerset just had to avoid a heavy defeat in last night’s match at Redcar in order to top their play-off semi-final group, but the Rebels qualified in style with a 47-43 win, earning themselves three group points in the process to finish with a nine point total, three clear of Newcastle.

After his 18-point maximum for Somerset at Newcastle on Sunday, it was Rebels’ captain Jason Doyle who once again led the way with 14 points from his five rides.

“I said beforehand that we were heading to Redcar with the intention of winning the meeting and that’s exactly what we did!” Somerset team manager Garry May told Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards.

“Again, this was another great all-round team performance and we were fully deserving of or win here tonight.”

“We could have come up here looking for the ‘easy option’ of just doing enough to qualify, but that is not our way of going about things and the boys really wanted that win here.”

“So now we have the Final against Edinburgh to look forward to, having lost in last year’s Final to Scunthorpe by a single race-point, we are determined to go one better this time around.”

“In saying that, Edinburgh will be tough opponents, and if our previous matches against each other are anything to go by, then the fans of both teams are in for a real treat over the 2 legs of the Final.”

The dates for the respective 2 legs of the Championship Final will be announced shortly.
