Entry period opens for Burnham-On-Sea’s 2013 Stert Island Swim

-

The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Stert Island Swim have this week started the entry period for the 2013 event.

The registration period for the popular spectacle is underway, with 80 places available.

This year’s 2,400m race will take place on Sunday July 28th during Burnham’s annual emergency services day – the first time it has been held on the same day.

The race will be held between 10.45am – 11.45am. The participants will swim from Burnham beach to Stert Island and back in front of crowds of watching spectators along The Esplanade.

A spokesman from West Country Triathletes, which organises the event, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There has been a lot of interest from the swimmers again this year and we have just a few places to fill.”

“As the water temperature in July is approximately 18 degrees centigrade, it’s been decided that wet suits will be compulsory.”

The event is supported by the RNLI, BARB, the Town Council, English Nature, Taunton Canoe Club, St John Ambulance and West Country Triathletes.

The cost of entry is £12.50 per person. Entry forms are available online via the page here.

West Country Tri-Athletes took over the organisation of the annual summer event in February 2008 after Sedgemoor District Council said it could no longer afford to run it.
