Latest school closures: Teachers strike in the Burnham-On-Sea area

Several schools across the Burnham-On-Sea area are partially closed today (Thursday) as teachers hold a one-day strike.

Letters have been sent to parents warning them to expect disruption during the national dispute.

The strike has been called over pay, pensions and working conditions by the National Union of Teachers and National Association of Schoolmasters and the Union of Woman Teachers.

Local schools are as follows:

Burnham Infants School is partially open, with classes continuing for Turtle, Dolphin, Seal and Kittiwake.

King Alfred School in Highbridge is closed to students in Years 7 -11.

East Brent First School is closed and will re-open on Friday.

St Andrew’s Junior School in Burnham is open as normal.

St Josephs Primary School and Nursery in Burnham is open as normal.

Brent Knoll School is closed all day for pupils in Class 3 and Class 4 and open for the afternoon only for pupils in Class 1 and Class 2.

West Huntspill Primary School is open as normal.

East Huntspill Primary School is open as normal.

Churchfield School in Highbridge is open as normal.

Wedmore First School Academy is open as normal.

Hugh Sexey C of E Middle School in Blackford is closed today due to the industrial action and will reopen on Friday.
