Firemen thanked at opening of new Burnham-On-Sea sweet shop

-

The daughter of a Burnham-On-Sea couple whose home was badly damaged in a blaze has thanked town firefighters for their work during the opening of her new business.

Kirstie Isom held the official opening of the Sweet Shack in Burnham High Street on Saturday which replaces the former Mix It confectionery store.

She is raising funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which helps injured members of fire crews, after her parents, Dave and Julie Isom, suffered a blaze at their Highbridge Road home before Christmas, causing thousands of pounds of damage.

At Saturday’s opening of the new shop, Burnham Fire Station Officer Ian Hazleton attended with fireman Craig Croves and the proceeds of a raffle will go to the Fire Fighters Charity.

Kirstie told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “When I took over the shop, formally called Mix It, it had no real identity and was pretty run down so after a successful summer I decided to refurbish it to give Burnham its own specialist sweet shop.”

“The new shop stocks over 170 varieties of pick n mix, including 20 sugar-free varieties, and we also make gift boxes to order, wedding favours, children’s party bags and sweet trees.”

She added: “After my parents suffered a devastating house fire a few days before Christmas, I decided to hold a raffle with all proceeds being donated to The Fire Fighters Charity to show our appreciation.”

“I would like to thank the two members of the Burnham fire crew who gave up their time to come along to the opening and help us officially open the shop. Thanks also go to everyone who has bought a ticket or made a donation to this great cause.”
