Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has paid tribute to former Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher, who has died this week.

MP Tessa Munt told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Margaret Thatcher broke the mould of this male dominated profession and to stay in power so dominantly as a woman for eleven years was hugely impressive and commendable.”

“I cannot say that I agreed with most of her policies – the poll tax was hugely un-popular and a clear error, she made savage cuts to industry with no real plan for regeneration and her drastic cuts to the military meant we only just had the capacity to go into the Falklands.”

“It is hard to imagine what Britain would have been like if she hadn’t been Prime Minister; she was a determined, straight-talking leader who certainly made an impression.”

Baroness Margaret Thatcher, 87, died earlier this week after suffering a stroke. Her funeral will be held next Wednesday.
