Coastguards have issued a warning to beware of high spring tides over the next couple of days.

The advice comes after two people had to be rescued after getting cut off by the high tides during separate incidents this week further along the Bristol Channel coastline.

Dave Jones, Watch Manager at Swansea Coastguard, which oversees the Bristol Channel, said: “It might just be an unlucky coincidence that we’ve had two almost identical rescues in two days. It’s likely that people are getting caught out by the high spring tides that we have at the moment.”

“These tides comes in faster and further than usual and so for this reason people out and about need to be especially careful when planning their walk along the beach.”

He added: “Always check the weather and tide timetable before you set out on your walk and wear appropriate clothing. If you do get cut off call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
