Tourism businesses in Burnham-On-Sea have enjoyed their busiest start to the summer season for at least five years.

The great weather in recent weeks has boosted accommodation bookings and brought extra visitors into the town at the start of the school holidays.

Debbie Banwell, who has provided Burnham’s beach pony and donkey rides for 35 years, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been the busiest start to a summer season that I can remember for many years.”

“The weather really has brought extra visitors and locals to the beach and that’s helped us no end.”

Ian Jefferies, manager at Burnham’s tourist information centre, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Many local holiday parks have been busier than normal with advance bookings thanks to the great weather.”

“It’s been a really promising start to the summer season – we just need the weather to hold now for the next few weeks.”
