Tractors return as Burnham-On-Sea to Land’s End drive raises £6,000

Three Massey Ferguson tractor drivers were greeted by cheers in Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday evening (August 28th) as they completed a 620-mile round trip to Land’s End and back, raising £6,000 for charity.

The drivers – Alan Rawles, Colin Durston and Gordon Cox – left Burnham last Thursday to travel to Cornwall and back to raise cash for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The tractors reached Barnstaple last Thursday evening, Newquay on Friday and arrived at Land’s End on Saturday before returning via Falmouth, Dartmouth, Exmouth, Weymouth and heading back into Burnham on Wednesday at 6pm.

Colin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We lost our way several times, so it took 620 miles instead of the planned 500, but we had a great few days. We’re so pleased to have raised such a fantastic amount for charity.”

“Thanks go to Ashley Edwards for all his work organising the event and to those who kindly sponsored and donated to us along the route.”

Colin revealed that the drivers are already planning a second fundraising trip in 2015 when they’re considering driving between Land’s End and John O’Groats. “It’s only a couple of extra hundred miles more so would be achievable and would be a great target to aim for,” he said.

Colin says the air ambulance is his favourite charity since he owes his life to it following an accident on his farm some 10 years ago.
