Over 280 athletes complete annual Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon

-

Over 280 athletes from across the country completed Burnham-On-Sea’s gruelling annual triathlon on Sunday morning (June 9th).

The event, now in its 27th year, was staged in warm, sunny conditions that were described as ‘ideal’ by several competitors.

Iain Hindes from North Devon Triathletes won the event – which comprised of a 500m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run – in a fast time of just over one hour. The first lady home was Abi White in a time of one hour, five minutes and 45 seconds.

Both winners are pictured on the right with Mark and Sara Cox Conklin from Burnham-On-Sea Swim and Sports Academy, which organised the event.

Organiser Martin Rogers said they were “delighted” with how the race had gone. “We had perfect weather conditions today and it was great to have so many athletes taking part. We also thank all those who helped us with marshalling and running the event,” he said.

Burnham pensioner Arthur Gilbert, who is the world’s oldest triathlete, did not take part but still cheered on competitors and helped with marshalling.
