Burnham-On-Sea residents raise over £5,000 for three good causes

-

A group of residents in Burnham-On-Sea who decorate their street with thousands of Christmas lights to raise money for local charities have this week handed out the cash to three good causes.

The residents of Burnham’s Trinity Close have presented the proceeds of their collection to hovercraft rescue charity BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat), PETAL, the Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust which helps local cancer hospices, and Musgrove Maternity Unit Trust Fund.

The colourful lights display, which attracted national TV attention last December, has raised £45,000 for charity since 2001 – including £5,670 in 2012.

Resident Paula Payne told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A big thank you goes to everyone who came to see our display over the Christmas period and for donating to these three good causes. We are delighted with the incredible sum raised for these local charities.”

A BARB spokesman thanked the group for their generous donation, saying the funds would help towards new equipment at the hovercraft station.
