Welsh international football player visits local club’s training evening

-

Welsh international women’s footballer Natasha Harding was the special guest coach at a Berrow Girls football development squad session on Friday evening (28th March).

The session was held at King Alfred School’s astro pitch in Highbridge and was attended by 24 young players who went along to pick up advice and playing tips.

Welsh international Tash Harding, who also represents Bristol Academy in the Womens Super League, took the girls through many drills with the help of the coaches Sharon, Kerry, Stuart and Dean.

Even with the rain all the girls enjoyed this fantastic opportunity to train with her and listen to her experiences within the game. The coaches are now arranging for the squad to watch Tash in action with Bristol Academy over the next few months.

Tash said at the end of the session: “I loved it – I love seeing how grass roots football is developing and especially for girls football. And what I saw here was one of the best! I’m sure more and more girls will attend and the future is looking great for that club. It’s not just coaching for me it’s trying to Inspire girls to achieve things that they think seen impossible. But with the help of Berrow’s coaches it will happen quicker.”

Dean said that it was great to see some new faces and hopes when the weather improves they will gain some more players.

“We will be entering several summer tournaments with the first one at the end of May, we are also entering the Somerset U12’s league next season with the help of our kit sponsor CRS Building Supplies in Highbridge. If numbers improve with the u15’s and U8’s we will be hosting some friendlies with other girls’ teams in the area. I thank Tash for taking some time out of her training to help promote Girls’ football in the local area.”

Parents who would like their daughter to try out the sport should contact Dean on 07764305945. Training is for girls aged between 6 and 16yrs and takes place every Friday from 7.30pm-8.30pm at King Alfred’s astro-turf. More information is available at www.berrowjfc.co.uk
