Burnham and Highbridge air cadets take to the skies!
youngsters from Burnham and Highbridge Air Cadets took to the
skies this week to complete their gliding induction courses.
Sunday (19th January), CI Jeff Jackson took the trio of cadets
from Burnham's 290 Sqn Detached Flight to 621 Volunteer Gliding
School Squadron Hullavington.
were taught how to launch and recover gliders and, in near perfect
flying conditions, Harry Jackson and Harry Bartlett completed
four flights each and were awarded their GIC 2 course, having
completed GIC 1 on a previous visit in December last year.
Cash was there for the first time and completed three flights,
therefore receiving his GIC 1.

Gliding Induction Courses prepare them for residential Gliding
Scholarship Courses which they can apply for when they turn fifteen
and a half. They could actually go solo in a glider at sixteen,
before they can apply for a driving licence," said a spokesman.
cadets meets every Thursday evening at 7.30pm-9.45pm and provides
a wide range of activities, varying from adventure and leadership
training, to gliding. Those interested in joining should visit
