Highbridge anglers fined after being prosecuted for illegal fishing

Two men from Highbridge are among several anglers have been given fines after being caught illegally fishing in the county.

The Environment Agency has caught more than a dozen people fishing without official licences.

They have been fined after their cases were heard at Taunton Magistrates Court.

A fine of £300 was given to Andrew Templeman of Newton Road, Highbridge, as well as costs of £127, while Shaun Timmons of Hobart Road, Weston, was fined £175 with £127 costs.

John Templeton, of Newton Road, Highbridge, and Shaun Pearson, of Wheatfield, Wick St Lawrence, were ordered to pay £120 and £115 respectively. Each defendant was also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.

A coarse fishing rod licence can be bought from the Environment Agency for £27.
