young apprentice completes summer work placement
young apprentice from King Alfred School in Highbridge has completed
a four week placement at Homes in Sedgemoor over the summer.
Young Apprentice Programme was a collaborative project between
Homes in Sedgemoor and the school that aimed to prepare young
people for the world of work, giving them the opportunity to learn
new skills, increase their confidence and help them understand
the realities of getting a job.
Durkin was one of nine young people who took part in the programme,
working within a group of Year 12 students to complete three interactive
sessions around communication, interview skills, presentation
skills and employability.
presentations and a formal interview process, Liam was offered
a work placement at Homes in Sedgemoor during August and spent
time with various teams, including Community Engagement, Customer
Services and IT.
part in the young apprentice programme has really helped to increase
his confidence. Liam didnt have any work experience before
taking part, but he has now gained new skills and knowledge which
he can apply to a real work environment in the future.

Liam said: "I would like to thank Homes in Sedgemoor for
giving me this opportunity because it has been absolutely amazing."
