Burnham duo pull on their onesies for World Autism Awareness Day

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea women dressed up in onesies to raise aweareness of autism this week.

Sarah Lynch and Colleen Moon pulled on their colourful suits at Burnham Infants School for World Autism Awareness Day on Wednesday (April 2nd).

“So often it is a hidden disability creating many lifelong hurdles, primarily with social, emotional and communication difficulties,” Sarah told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We wore our onesies to collect the children from school because it was the National Autistic Society’s ‘Onesie Wednesday’, raising awareness of the condition.”

Sarah has three children and her eldest, Liam, attends St Andrew’s School and has Aspergers Syndrome. “We are all so proud of him – he has overcome so many hurdles,” she said.

“Yesterday Liam asked me to post on Facebook on his behalf for World Autism Awareness Day a photo of me and him with the message ‘I am Liam, I have Aspergers. Having Aspergers is awesome and cool because I think in a different way’.”

“My husband Wayne and I have amazing support from family and friends, and Liam is very well-liked by everyone he meets because he has such a gentle and kind nature.”

“Next year a group of us mums with ‘sensational’ kids intend to get the schools more involved to help raise further awareness.”
