BARB assists in ongoing flood relief work across Somerset

-

Crewmembers from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue were called to help in ongoing flood relief work across Somerset on Wednesday (February 5th).

Volunteers from the charity were called out by the Somerset Civil Contingencies Unit after further heavy rain prompted the evacuation of residents in Fordgate, North Moor and Moorland.

Working alongside several organisations, BARB was tasked with checking on the welfare of residents in the villages.

The team also evacuated a couple from their flooded home, who were safely taken through the water to a rest centre set up by Sedgemoor District Council.

BARB Operations Manager Mike Lowe said: “Our volunteers are always available to help the community during times like this.”

BARB is one of several organisations helping with flood relief work as part of the Somerset Civil Contingencies Unit.

BARB has had a busy start to the year, having helped deliver supplies to the cut-off village of Muchelney during several days in January. The charity also evacuated a lady stranded in her flood-hit home for 13 days in North Curry. They have also assisted in several other weather-related call-outs over the past month.
