The manager of a Burnham-On-Sea pub is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for charity by taking part in the Weston Beach Race this weekend.

Mark Robson, the manager of The Rosewood in Love Lane, is aiming to raise £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support when he jumps onto his motorbike to take part in the RHL Weston Beach Race on Sunday (19th October).

Mark, who has worked in the Hungry Horse pub for two years, has been riding motorbikes since he was a boy, but is taking on the famous sandy track for the first time.

In addition to his riding challenge Mark is looking to raise money for Macmillan and plans to dress in Macmillan-themed green clothing, including a bright wig on top of his helmet, as pictured!

Mark’s friends, members of the team from the Rosewood and the Hungry Horse mascot Super Horse will be attending to support him and collect donations.

Mark said: “I am very excited to be taking part in the Weston Beach Race. It is a massive event and is a challenge I have wanted to do for a while. I know it is a very tough race and that not many who start actually finish, so my aim is simply to finish. I have spent a lot of time getting the bike and myself ready for this extreme challenge.”

“At the Rosewood we are always trying to think of ways to raise money for Macmillan so I thought why not take this opportunity to raise some more. My outfit should make me stand out, so when people see me and my team I hope they donate to a really good cause.”

The race is in its 32nd year and sees Weston’s beach undergo a massive transformation into a bumpy and bendy sand track. Mark will take part in the adult solo race that is due to begin at 1.30pm.
