A team of volunteers who bring a dash of colour to the centre of Highbridge each summer have this week been awarded a cash injection.

Pam Lyes, who helps to run the Highbridge In Bloom committee, right, sought grant funding from the Town Council to enable the planning and planting of scores of floral displays.

At a meeting of the Town Council’s Policy and Finance Committee on Monday night (June 16th), councillors voted to give £500 to the scheme.

Cllr Ken Smout said: “I am full of admiration for all the residents who get involved in making Highbridge so colourful each summer. They are a credit to the town.”

And Cllr Helen Groves said: “The Highbridge In Bloom team deserves all the help we can give them – I fully support this application.”

The Highbridge In Bloom committee is seeking residents to join in with the planting work, plus fundraising and building relationships with local organisations.

Highbridge in Bloom has won four Silver Gilt Awards for the town since 2008, plus numerous ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards’ for other participating groups and organisations.
