Home brewing has seen a revival in recent years with sales of home brewing kits for cider, beer and wine up by 75% at some outlets year-on-year.

And with this in mind, the Burnham Food & Drink Festival is bringing back its popular brewing competition to its autumn event on Saturday October 25th.

Residents in the Burnham area who are brewing their own drinks will get a chance to test their expertise against other brewers and fermentors in The Great Burnham Brew Off.

The competition is free to enter and has classes for beer, liqueurs and infusions such as sloe gin and rhubarb vodka.

Festival Director Bev Milner Simonds said: “This is a fun competition with all home brewers encouraged to look out a bottle of their top-tipple and bring it along to The Princess Theatre before 11am on 25th October for judging.”

“We want to thank Balliihoo for their support this year – the task of judging is a tough one and we are pleased their team have volunteered their palettes.”

A spokesman from sponsors Balliihoo added: “As a local firm we wanted to get behind this competition to find the best home brewed beer and infusions in Somerset. We have heard so many stories of people boasting that their brew is the best – but now is the time to put those bottles to the test.”
