Burnham-On-Sea won’t enter Britain In Bloom contest this year

-

The organiser of a popular gardening competition has this week said that Burnham-On-Sea will not be entering the annual Britain In Bloom contest this year.

Dave Perrett, Chairman of Burnham in Bloom, pictured, said the town will not enter South West in Bloom until improvements have been made to Burnham’s High Street.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We need the new hanging baskets installed along the High Street, which are due to be introduced over the next year as part of the Tesco 106 funding changes.”

“Until those changes are completed we can’t safely hang the baskets so entering the competition is not possible, but we’d like to enter again in 2016 if possible.”

Burnham did not enter last year either due to the changes but Burnham and Highbridge won a coveted Silver Gilt award in 2011, as reported here.

Meanwhile, the Burnham In Bloom town competition for the best floral displays will be going ahead as normal this year, however organisers are keen for more volunteers to help them.

“We do need more volunteers to come forward and help us – if they don’t there’s a risk the event won’t be able to go ahead,” added Dave.

Those who can help the group should call 01278 788292 mentioning Burnham-On-Sea.com.
