areas around Burnham could finally get faster Internet access
of thousands of pounds are to be spent on bringing superfast broadband
to rural areas around Burnham-On-Sea.
additional £340,000 has been agreed in principal by a Full
Council meeting of Sedgemoor District Council this week to support
a regional project that will assist the delivery of superfast
broadband in rural areas.
investment will go towards the Connecting Devon and Somerset project,
which is rolling out high-speed fibre broadband to rural communities
and aims to deliver 90% superfast broadband coverage by the end
of 2016," council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
contribution is being made alongside other Somerset district councils
and the County Council in response to the government releasing
an additional £22.75m to the Connecting Devon and Somerset
is estimated that the additional funding from Sedgemoor could
potentially deliver superfast broadband to 3,273 additional premises
by the end of 2017.
