Teenager’s uninsured car is seized by Burnham-On-Sea Police

-

Burnham-On-Sea police have seized a car from a local teenager as part of a crackdown on uninsured vehicles.

Sgt Tracy Marlow of Burnham Police said a Fiat Punto had been taken away and a local 18 year-old man is now helping police with their enquiries.

“The offences were no MOT and no insurance,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “The car was seen in Burnham by a PCSO on patrol – uninsured vehicles will be seized and drivers dealt with.”

Police can give drivers a fixed penalty of £300 and six penalty points if they’re caught driving a vehicle that is not insured to drive.

If the case goes to court, the driver can get a maximum fine of £5,000 and be disqualified from driving.

The police also have the power to seize, and in some cases, destroy vehicles that are being driven uninsured.
