Fundraising gig to raise money for new charity in memory of Charley

-

A special concert will be held this Friday (October 31st) to raise funds for a new charity that is being formed in memory of a Burnham-On-Sea teenager.

Popular 18 year-old Charley Marks, right, passed away in September, as we reported here.

The Ritz Social Club in Burnham’s Victoria Street is holding the Halloween charity gig on Friday from 7.30pm to raise funds for newly-formed charity, ‘In Charley’s Memory’, a mental health charity.

His mother, Jo Clement, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are in the process of setting up the new charity whose aims will be to support young adults, aged 18-25, who suffer with mental health issues, and their families.”

“We are in the process of designing a web page to provide relevant information and I’d like to visit schools and colleges to talk about mental health and tell them Charley’s story.”

“I have long-term plans to open a drop-in clinic and open a place where young adults can receive long or short-term accommodation with 24-hour support and help.”

“There is nothing like this in Somerset that is aimed at this age range and that is where Charley was failed.”

Local music group Daft Folk will be playing at Friday’s fundraising concert, plus friends. Entry will cost £2 per person on the door and donations will be welcomed.

Scores of tributes for the former King Alfred School student were posted online by friends and family after Charley’s death and hundreds of local youngsters held candlelit vigils and attended his funeral.
