A hovercraft and a team of Coastguards from Burnham-On-Sea were called out during Saturday’s Weston Air Day to search for three missing children.

Burnham Coastguards were on a safety patrol on Brean Down – where large crowds had gathered to watch the air show as pictured above – when they were called to Weston to join the search.

Burnham Coastguard Officer Ian Jefferies said: “There was concern for a missing seven year-old boy who had not been seen for some time by his family.”

“We assisted Weston Coastguards in searching for the boy at the height of the air show during the Red Arrows display and the BARB hovercraft helped with a shoreline search. Fortunately, he was found safe and well and reunited with his grateful mother.”

Later in the afternoon, Burnham Coastguards were called out again to search for a missing boy and girl, aged 13 and 10, on Weston beach – both of whom were successfully found after an extensive search which also involved the police.
