With the arrival of Spring, Burnham-On-Sea’s Friends of Marine Cove are set to hold a number of events in the seafront gardens over the coming weeks.

The first event is to be held today (Saturday, March 1st) when visitors will be welcome to join a new monthly gardening session.

The workshop will be held between 9am and 3pm and will provide a chance to find out more about the different ways to get involved at Marine Cove and give a helping hand.

Monthly gardening sessions will then be held on 5th April, 3rd May, 7th June, 5th July, 2nd August, 6th September, 4th October and 1st November from 9am-3pm.

Gardening tips will also be on offer at a further event on Saturday 15th March between 10am and 2pm. Basic gardening skills will be taught including sowing some seeds to take home. There will be no age or ability restriction.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Community Gardener at Marine Cove, Jacqui Strong, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that volunteers are being sought.

“Whether it is two hours a week or a month, no offer of help is refused. If you want to help in the garden please wear appropriate clothes. Tools will be provided, as well as some warming tea and coffee!” she said.

To get more information about the events or regarding the gardens in general, contact Jacqui via email at jacqueline.strong@sedgemoor.gov.uk or call the office on 01278 436420.

Meanwhile, The Friends of Marine Cove and Sedgemoor District Council have produced an album linked to the activities and events held during 2013 in the gardens. Copies of the booklet have been donated to The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre, Burnham Library and Burnham Information Centre. Postcards of the Church and Marine Cove, taken from a picture kindly donated to the group by local artist Bill Edwards, are also available at the information centre.
