Burnham Police appeal for witnesses after pedestrian is hit by car

Police have appealed for witnesses after a pedestrian suffered head injuries when she was struck by a passing car in Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday evening (January 14th).

The woman, aged in her 80s, was rushed to Frenchay Hospital following the collision at the busy junction of Berrow Road and Shelley Drive.

Several police officers were called to the scene and the area was coned off as investigations began.

The collision occurred during the busy evening rush-hour when a period of heavy rain was passing through the town, which may have hampered visibility.

A police spokesman told "The incident occurred at around 5.20pm and we are asking any witnesses who saw the incident to get in contact."

Anyone with information should contact police on the non-emergency number 101.

Meanwhile, the M5 northbound was temporarily closed last night after a two-vehicle collision between junction 22 at Burnham and junction 23 for Brigwater North. Two people were freed by fire crews from a van but their injuries were not reported to be serious.
