Burnham-On-Sea police have launched an investigation after several propane cylinders were set on fire.

A fire crew from Burnham was called out at 11pm on Saturday night to reports of a cylinder on fire in the open in the area of North Chine Drove near Mudgley, Wedmore.

“Upon arrival the Incident Commander requested an off-road vehicle with all available personnel after finding a cylinder well alight and venting,” said a spokesman.

“Crews set to work extinguishing the fire with a safety jet, working at a safe distance from the cylinder, trying to cool it.”

“Three further cylinders were also found to be involved in the fire. Crews continued to use 2 main jets and water safety equipment to cool all of the cylinders before physically closing off the valves to prevent further venting.”

“The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate. No further damage was caused.”
